About

The Howdenshire Island project seeks to discover the creative, cultural, business and historic gems on the Island and introduce you to them. The people of Howdenshire have generated all the information on this site, steadily creating an expanding communal knowledge base. This will act as a cultural and social benchmark helping the community to evaluate and inform the debate about their changing environment.

The idea for this space was developed in conversation with the Howdenshire Town Team, the artist Benedict Phillips and his associates; Architect Jonathan Lindh, Archaeologist John Oxley, Artist/Project Support Dominic Hopkinson.

This project is being run by the MBED Partnership, which was set up by the Creative Industries Development Agency (CIDA) in Huddersfield and Beam in Wakefield to aid the delivery of the Yorkshire Forward Partnership Skills Programme, helping town teams such as Howdenshire Forward to deliver their ambitious plans for the future.

As part of the Partnership Skills Programme, Howdenshire Forward will involve the people of Howdenshire to actively participate in making change both personally and for their town.

Howdenshire Forward’s mission is to make Howden and Howdenshire a better place to live, work, invest in and visit by developing the local economy and improving local services, with any growth and development being managed in a sustainable way that protects the history and character of Howdenshire.
